Size Guide

From bold mavericks to quiet, reflective thinkers, we believe we have something for everyone out there. Our Size Guide will help direct you towards optical and sunglasses that suit you best and how to find your measurements, so your unique personality can shine through your frames.

How To Choose

Your frames above all should feel comfortable, especially for long usage. Following our practical tips will help you determine whether a frame is right for you, or if there are alternative styles better suited.

  • Your pupils should sit in the centre of the lenses.
  • Your eyebrows should not be inside the frame, unless this is a desired effect. See Bridge Width below.
  • Your frames should not slide down your nose or slip with cheek movement.
  • Standard acetate frames should sit on your nose bridge — the slope between the nose and the eyes.
  • Keyhole and metal frame bridges will rest on the widest part of the nose, leaving the bridge to float above the crest of your nose.

Key Measurements

When choosing frames there are four main points to measure: lens width — also known as eye size, bridge width, temple length and lens height. These measurements will help point to frames best suited for small, medium and large face sizes.

Frame Width

To help select the best frame width for you, our frames are available in three size categories.

Narrow

These frames feature widths between 130 and 140mm, suitable for narrow faces.

Medium

These frames feature widths between 140-150mm and will suit most faces.

Wide

These frames are wider with widths between 150-155mm and will suit larger or wider faces.

Bridge Width

Bridge width is the distance between two lenses at the narrowest point. Our bridge sizes range from 14-24mm, and a general Bridge Fit recommendation can be found below.

Narrow Bridge

14-19mm suit small noses bridges, and those who find that frames often sit below their eyebrows.

Medium Bridge

20-22mm suits most bridge widths.

Wide Bridge

23-24mm suits wider nose bridges and those who find frames often sit above their eyebrows.

Temple Length

This is the total length of the temple and will guide you to choosing frames that fit well based on recommended lengths.

Regular

145mm, will fit most head sizes.

Long

150mm, ideal for those who find the bend of the temple falls before their ear, making frames tip forward.

Extra Long

155mm, ideal for those with longer or larger head shapes, that find the bend of the temple doesn’t reach far enough past the ear.

Lens Width

Also known as the ‘eye size’ this measures the horizontal width of each lens at its widest point. The lens width impacts how frames sit on your face, taking into consideration lens proportion and alignment.

Small

40-48mm.

Medium

49-54mm.

Large

55-62mm.

Finding Your Measurements

Cutler and Gross frames feature their measurements, discreetly engraved on the inner right temple. For example, an engraving of 50 □ 21 (145) indicates a lens width of 50mm, bridge width of 21mm and temple arm length of 145mm. Alongside this, our online Frame Finder features an integrated measurement filter to further search for the right pair.

What To Consider

Although finding the right frames may feel daunting, Cutler and Gross offers support every step of the way, including complimentary frame adjustments for the optimal fit. These include:

  • Adjustments to the temples, whether they need to be tightened or loosened, or adjusted slightly to give more or less length behind the ears.
  • Adjustments for crooked frames, whether that be the bridge or the temples.

If further adjustments are needed, we are also able to add nose pads to most of our frames to help them sit up for a better fit. Please resist the temptation to adjust your frames yourself, as they can break without professional tools and guidance.

We Recommend

Please be aware that not quite every frame will be the perfect match for your specifications. However, we celebrate the unique and alternative so are likely to be able to find a solution for all faces, great and small.

Global Fit Frames feature longer and slightly flatter nose projections on acetate frames, and are a better match for anyone with a flatter nose bridge.

Standard Fit Frames on the contrary are designed with a standard curve, suited for most nose bridges.

Graham Cutler collection introduces a curation of smaller optical and sunglass styles for smaller face shapes.
