Bespoke by Cutler and Gross
Cutler and Gross began in 1969 as a bespoke spectacle maker. Each frame was one-of-a-kind, made by hand in the studio above our Knightsbridge store.
Inspired by a piece of furniture perhaps, a slice of film noir or some imaginary concept, Mr Cutler and Mr Gross would rush upstairs to share their ideas with George Smith, our original frame maker. Smith would sketch the shape onto acetate and then manually, with a jigsaw, begin cutting.
Available at all Cutler and Gross locations, Bespoke appointments take place over the course of an hour or two as, together with one of our expert opticians, we design your personalised frame.

Our Bespoke Service
Select your shape from the current collection or a pre-existing Cutler and Gross silhouette and then choose from a kaleidoscopic array of acetate colours. Alternatively, opt to have your frame crafted from sustainably sourced buffalo horn – a truly specialist material.
Your unique design will then be sent to our atelier in Italy, where one of our master craftspeople will create your glasses by hand. Cutting, shaping, tumbling, polishing – the process of perfection takes time.

Horn Frames
Cutler and Gross horn glasses represent the pinnacle of eyewear. Handcrafted by expert artisans from sustainably sourced water buffalo horn, they possess a lightness and stability that is unmatched in the industry. Sculpted from a natural material, horn frames require specialist skills that few artisans possess. Horn frames are available through our bespoke service.
To ensure the longevity of the horn glasses, each pair is accompanied by a cleansing balm that we recommend applying every few months.
From the Atelier to your Eyewear Arsenal
When your bespoke frames are ready to collect, you will be invited into store to try them on and, if necessary, we will make final adjustments to ensure a tailored fit.
