Spring Summer campaign captured by Rankin

The Haçienda is the nightclub that changed Britain. Open from 1982 to 1997, the former boat showroom in Manchester’s city centre was at the forefront of music and youth culture at its peak. Launching the careers of global artists and providing the backdrop for a cultural revolution of which the legacy can still be felt today.

The Spring Summer 23 collection takes inspiration from the Haçienda, drawing from key shapes in our extensive design archive from this period and reinventing them for a modern audience with special regard for the music, colour and fashion of that time. Bug eye frames and statement wraparounds take centre stage, whilst the optical offering for this collection references icons of The Haçienda such as Jarvis Cocker of Pulp and Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order, and erstwhile co-owner of the club itself.

Pushing acetate to its limits this season by adding radical bevelled detailing around the perimeter of the lenses, each style features thick profiles and an exaggerated fit that would feel as much at home in the 80s and 90s as they do now. Each frame has been painstakingly milled to ensure the oversized visual impact isn’t bogged down by unnecessary weight.

This collection will also see our first wrap frame in over 20 years by looking into our extensive archive once more. The brand new 9276, one of the standouts in this collection, references the original 0276 as worn by Bono of U2 during their Achtung Baby Tour in 1992.

The Spring Summer 2023 collection is available now in store and online. Explore the collection below and see our campaign video shot by world-renowned photographer and cultural provocateur Rankin.
