Cutler and Gross Spring/Summer collection captures the essence of Grace Kelly. Her
beauty, her aristocratic elegance, her home and fairytale lifestyle inspired our
design team into creating a luxurious and timeless collection.
Grace Kelly, the star in Alfred Hitchcock’s superb thriller 'Rear Window,' left
a strong impact with her audience, not only with her noted acting skills, but with
her alluring beauty. In the late 50’s Grace announced her engagement to Prince Rainer
of Monaco, the most eligible and charming bachelor from 'Old Europe'. After starring
in eleven films, she bid an elegant farewell to Hollywood by appearing in her most
stylish film ‘High Society’ in 1956.
The signature Grace Kelly look is chic, always ladylike in simple tailoring during
the day and never to be seen without a beautiful pair of sunglasses. The new princess
seemed to have a new pair for each day. During evening functions, Grace wore exquisite
gowns by her favourite designer Marc Bohan for Dior, Givenchy, Madame Gres, Chanel
and Balenciaga.
The creative team and Cutler and Gross were influenced by Princess Grace and Prince
Rainer's love of swimming, cruising along the Med and yachting. Our design team
created the aptly titled 'on deck sunglasses' that have a highly polished wooden
effect. The turquoise of the sea inspired the 'Cote D'Azur' blue sunglasses.
While white very much remains an undisputed favourite for spring summer '09, Cutler
and Gross has created a new and exciting 'Abalone shell' sunglass. A shimmering
shell like surface with deep hues of ocean blues, deep greens and vivid purples,
these sunglasses evoke a summer holiday on an alluring island.
This range is full of classic shapes with beautiful details and finishes; ebony,
teak, mottled mint and black is a reoccurring colour theme. Her shapes include a
palette of jade green, ebony and palace pink.
