Artist Luke Waller creates paintings based on our Martyn Bal collaboration frames

By Sam Mohammadi

To celebrate the success of the the Wowzers frames designed by MARTYN BAL for Cutler and Gross, Bal worked with London based artist/illustrator LUKE WALLER to create nine paintings entitled titled Jess, Oscar, Solomon, Mikey, Sam, Nathan, Nuha, Bret, Bartle and Jim. Each depicts a portrait of an individual wearing the Wowzers frame in the shade Black Dream.

Each portrait tells its own cinematic story of an enigmatic individual in which Luke seeks to toe the line between fashion and art. He has combined design and strategy to create compelling imagery that engages the viewers’ perception and emotions, holding up a mirror to inner strength. The core of this strength is versatility, born of a multifaceted nature in which apparent contradictions compliment each other effortlessly.

The exhibition will be held at the Cutler and Gross Vintage store at 7 Knightsbridge Green from May 18 to June 15, 2012. We celebrated in the space last night with an opening party welcoming a host of Cutler and Gross friends and customers as well as friends and fans of both Martyn Bal and Luke Waller.
