Canadian designer Thomas Tait creates Sadzies frames with Cutler and Gross

By Sam Mohammadi

Burgeoning young Canadian designer Thomas Tait has teamed with Cutler and Gross for his second collection showing at London Fashion Week this September 2011. Tait is the youngest designer to graduate from Central Saint Martins MA womenswear. We are thrilled to support and work alongside such inspiring and young talent.

Tait designs glasses in the same way he designs clothing, keeping shape, fit and quality at the top of his mind. He wanted the Sadzies frames to “express confidence at first glance, but upon closer inspection appear somewhat vulnerable.” Sadzies are an oversized frame with distinctive features including recessed lens to emulate an eye socket and milling to create a furrowed brow.

“Juxtaposition was a big theme in the design idea behind the glasses,” Tait explains.
“I wanted them to be bold and empathetic.” The colour options include a black frame with a shiny dark gray lens, and a cloud white frame with either teary blue mirror lenses or watery green mirrored lenses. The colourways add to the sense of simultaneous security and innocence.
